Tell Kermit to "set take echo on" before giving the TAKE comamnd. Then you
can see which command is hanging. Dollars to donuts it's the "set line"
command.

Which would most like cause UNIX to hang trying to open the port. If
"set carrier-watch off" doesn't help, then you'll have to install a jumper
between pins 8 and 20 (Figure II-6, "Using C-Kermit", 2nd Edition, p.494).
